Pet-friendly living rooms.
Claws, fur and the odd spill do not have to decide what your living room looks like. Five rooms, five Signature sofas, each in a Performance Diamond colour chosen to hide fur and shrug off everyday scratches.
Find your room direction
The short answer
Choose the weave first, then the colour.
The easiest way to keep a stylish sofa pet-friendly is a tightly woven performance fabric in a mid-tone close to your pet’s coat. It resists everyday scratches and wipes clean of spills, and a mid or warm tone (taupe, chestnut, coconut, seafoam) hides shed fur far better than pure white or black.
Every Couchery Signature piece offers Performance Diamond at no extra cost, and because each is made to order, you choose the exact colour and size for your room. The rooms below are a starting point, not a fixed configuration.
All room images are digitally edited sofa styling studies based on real interior photographs. Colours on screen vary; check physical swatches before ordering.
Room direction 01 / Warm study corner, one cat
A reading nook that forgives a kneading cat.
A small den or home-office corner with shelves on the back wall and one cat that likes to knead. Serenity in Performance | Toasted Chestnut | ED02 brings a warm brown-amber tone that hides shed fur between vacuums.

The performance weave is tightly woven, so it stands up to everyday claws and snags far better than a loose weave, suede or chenille. No upholstery is fully claw-proof, so trimmed nails and a scratching post nearby still help.
Serenity is a wall-hugging recliner. No space needed behind it. It reclines fully while pushed back against a bookshelf wall, which matters in a corner where every centimetre of floor counts.
Plan the footprint. Serenity measures 320 cm wide × 89 cm deep × 103 cm high (126 × 35 × 40.5 in). Because it is made to order, a smaller size can be made, and it often costs less.

Let a mid-tone do the hard work in a family room.
A busier household with a shedding dog and a dog bed that needs a place along the wall. Cascade in Performance Diamond | Autumn Taupe | D2 is a mid-tone that hides hair between vacuuming.

The Performance Diamond weave is built to resist scratches and daily wear, and spills wipe off rather than soaking in straight away. It is offered at no extra cost: Performance Diamond colours are priced the same as the standard fabric options.
Cascade’s seats recline without needing floor space behind the sofa. No space needed behind it. That keeps the walkway and the dog’s corner clear.
Plan the footprint. Cascade measures 287 cm wide × 100 cm deep × 89 cm high (113 × 39.4 × 35 in), with a seatable width of 231 cm (90.9 in). Made to order, so a shorter version can be made.

Keep a small apartment light, even with a cat.
A studio or one-bedroom with a climbing cat and not much floor space. CloudNest in Performance Diamond | Coconut | ED01 keeps the room light; its subtle texture still hides fur better than a flat white.

CloudNest’s seats extend forward rather than reclining back, so it can sit flush against the wall. No space needed behind it. In a small room that leaves space for a cat tree or a window perch.
Because CloudNest is made to order, you choose the size for your room. A smaller size can be made, and it often costs less.
Plan the footprint. Check the CloudNest size table on the product page for your chosen configuration, and mark both the closed and fully extended depth on the floor before you order.

A guest room that is also the pets’ favourite room.
A guest room that doubles as the main hangout spot for two cats and a dog. LuxeNap in Performance Diamond | Seafoam Mist | D5 is a cool, muted tone that is forgiving between cleanings.

LuxeNap’s seats extend forward into a bed at the press of a button, so it needs no clearance behind it. No space needed behind it. That is useful in a room that also keeps a litter box or pet bed along the back wall.
Choose fabric or leather: every Signature piece is made to order in your choice. Leather wipes clean of fur easily too, though claw marks can show on it.
Plan the footprint. LuxeNap is made in widths from 200 to 360 cm (78.7 to 141.7 in), 100 cm (39.4 in) deep closed and 155 cm (61 in) fully extended, 98 cm (38.6 in) high.

Match a dark-coated dog with a deeper tone.
The rule is simple: choose a shade close to your pet’s coat. For a black or dark-brown dog, MallowNest in Performance Diamond | Charcoal Mist | D8 hides dark hair that a light sofa would show at once.

Very dark sofas show light fur and dust, so this direction is for dark coats only. For a light-coated pet, go back to Coconut or Autumn Taupe.
MallowNest extends forward too. No space needed behind it. It is made to order in sizes from 196 to 334 cm (77.2 to 131.5 in) wide.
Plan the footprint. Pick the MallowNest width from 196 cm (77.2 in) up to 334 cm (131.5 in), and mark the extended seat depth on the floor before ordering.

What pet owners say about sofas, in their own words.
We read owner discussions on Houzz and City-Data and checked what people search for before they find Couchery. These are the worries that come up again and again, with our honest answer to each.
“Hair sticks in fabric terribly.”
A dog owner on City-Data said it plainly, and a long-time cat owner on Houzz found the opposite with a smooth microfiber: “the fur vacuums off very easily.” The lesson is the surface, not the label. Loose, nubby textures trap hair; a tight, smooth weave lets it lift off. That is why every room in this guide uses the tightly woven Performance Diamond fabric.
“Leather, hands down!” — but does it scratch?
Leather is the most common recommendation in owner threads because fur and spills wipe off. The same City-Data thread also warns that claw marks show on leather, and that a leather/plastic blend “did not last at all.” Interior designer Pia of Finnterior Designer found the same after living with a cat. If you choose leather, choose real leather and accept a patina of light marks.
“What fabrics have held up best against claws?”
That was the question a cat and puppy owner asked on Houzz. Owners point to tight, smooth weaves; loose weaves, viscose and silk snag. No upholstery is fully claw-proof, so trimmed nails and a scratching post near the sofa still matter.
“Are performance fabrics worth the extra cost?”
People search this exact question before they reach us. At Couchery there is no extra cost to weigh: Performance Diamond is priced the same as the standard fabric options on every Signature sofa.
“What colour hides my dog’s hair?”
One Siberian Husky owner on City-Data picked their sofa cover for one reason: “it hides the white Siberian Husky hair.” Match the sofa to the coat, not to what feels safe: coconut for pale coats, taupe or chestnut for golden and brown, charcoal for black.

Bring the idea home
Plan the room for people and pets.
All five sofas share one thing: No space needed behind it. Cascade and Serenity recline without a gap behind them; LuxeNap, CloudNest and MallowNest extend their seats forward. Mark the closed and the fully reclined or extended footprint, then check the pet bed, water bowl and walking route still fit.
| Sofa | Width | Depth |
|---|---|---|
| Serenity | 320 cm (126 in) | 89 cm (35 in) |
| Cascade | 287 cm (113 in) | 100 cm (39.4 in) |
| LuxeNap | 200–360 cm (78.7–141.7 in) | 100 cm (39.4 in); 155 cm (61 in) extended |
| MallowNest | 196–334 cm (77.2–131.5 in) | see product size table |
| CloudNest | see product size table | see product size table |
Every Signature piece is made to order, so a smaller size can be made, and it often costs less. You are buying a sofa either way: a Signature sofa costs about the same as a regular sofa, but it also reclines or extends into a bed, and the pet-friendly performance fabric comes at no extra cost.

A few useful answers
Pets, fabric and colour: FAQ.
What fabric is best for a sofa with pets?
A tightly woven performance fabric, like Couchery’s Performance Diamond, holds up to claws and spills far better than a loose weave, suede or chenille.
Does performance fabric really resist cat and dog scratches?
Performance Diamond is built to resist everyday scratching and snagging better than a standard fabric weave. No upholstery is fully claw-proof, so trimming nails and offering a scratching post still helps.
Can I choose leather instead of fabric for a pet-friendly sofa?
Yes. Every Couchery Signature piece is made to order in your choice of fabric or leather. Leather wipes clean of fur and spills easily and is a common pet-owner choice, but claw marks can show, so choose real leather rather than a leather/plastic blend.
Does a pet-friendly performance fabric cost extra?
No. Performance Diamond is offered at no extra cost across the Signature collection, at the same price as the standard fabric options.
What sofa colour hides pet hair best?
A mid-tone shade close to your pet’s coat colour, such as taupe, toasted chestnut or coconut, hides shed fur far better than pure white, black or very dark colours.
Can a made-to-order Signature sofa be sized for a small room?
Yes. Because every Signature piece is made to order, you choose the size and seat count for your room, and a smaller size can be made. It often costs less too.
